This week we have been learning about our hearts and blood (Charlie-may). It is called the circulatory system (Jezley). Our goal was to create a song about blood to help us remember all the information (Hannah). To learn all the facts about blood we carried out research (Rose and Ameliah).
We worked in groups to read books to pick out facts and words (Connor). Then we started to create the lyrics for our song about blood (Adriana and Ameliah). Tash wrote the lyrics on the board (Ella).
When we had all the lyrics we started to practise singing our song (Adriana and Olivia). We had to find a rhythm to sing our song to (Connor and Jacob).
We practised lots and then went to the hall (David). We performed our song to Dolphin class (Daisy). I felt excited (Lillie). I think some people could have felt scared because it was our first time performing to another class (Hannah).
I learned that we have 500 billion blood cells (Toby). I found out that blood is thicker than water (Eden). I have learned that it takes 45 seconds for blood to travel up and down (Ashley). White blood cells protect us from getting sick and poorly (Isabelle). I know without blood we’d be dead (Naomi). Platelets stop us bleeding and they can form a scab (Jonathan and James). Our blood is different shades of red (Tommy). I learnt that blood is a thick liquid and is not just water (Matilda). I know white blood cells gobble the germs (Daniel).
These are the lyrics to our song:
Blood is made up of tiny parts
With different jobs to do
Red blood cells carry the oxygen
They look like doughnuts too
White blood cells are protectors
They gobble up the germs
Platelets stop you bleeding
And they can form a scab!
Our blood is red but isn’t tomato soup or stew
We have red cells, white cells and platelets too!
Blood blood blood
Everybody has blood!
We have 500 billion blood cells
Without them we’d be dead
They wear out and need replacing
and they only last a few days
Our arteries carry blood
away from the heart
And then the veins carry it back
All the way to the start!
Our blood is red but isn’t tomato soup or stew
We have red cells, white cells and platelets too!
Blood blood blood
Everybody has blood!
Our amazing mysterious bodies
Contain a bucketful of blood
It travels around all day and night
bringing oxygen, chemicals and food
Our hearts are pretty powerful
They pump blood all around
Did you know it takes 45 seconds
to travel up and down?
Our blood is red but isn’t tomato soup or stew
We have red cells, white cells and platelets too!
Blood blood blood
Everybody has blood!
