Year 5 started to look at how they can be scientists and started to explore the topic of space. Once we had looked over the scientific process, we conducted our experiment. The ‘water bottle’ experiment explored how far a bottle would travel with different amounts of water.
Our results had a few anomalies which we discussed in class afterwards. We evaluated the experiment, discussing what could have made our anomalies and what other variables we could test in the future.
In the afternoon, Jack Piercy (local scientist) came in and discussed the force, Gravity, the impact it has on rockets and other objects. He showed Galileo’s gravity experiment both in the classroom and on the moon (video). Finally, he showed how energy transfers during a launch of a rocket using a balloon.
