Sports Day 2019

Sports day was held last Friday with all children in the school taking part in a range of sporting activities. All children were amazing and thank you to all of the families that came along to support the children. It was a really wonderful morning of sport.

After the sports were over we held our annual purple picnic. With plenty of stalls selling cakes, scrunchies, pot plants and face painting – we raised £270 for Nelson’s Journey.

Thank you for all of your continued support!

Football round up

Over the past term we have competed in a selection of matches against other schools.

The team has grown in confidence and have played some excellent football. We have recorded a win, two 1-1 draws and a loss.

The team which consists of players from Years 5 and 6 have learnt some important lessons along the way but most importantly they showed tonight in our match versus Sprowston that we never give up and always battle for each other.

Thank you to all the parents who have come along to support us and helped to get the team to and from away fixtures. It has been much appreciated.

Sports Partnership Cross Country Competition

Our children continued to shine at the schools cross country event on Wednesday, despite the autumnal conditions!

Mr Clucas took 26 children over to Earlham Park to take part in the Norwich Sports Partnership Cross Country Event. This was the second event that we have attended this term and our children performed exceptionally well on a cold and windy day.

Although we are still awaiting official results, notable performances came from Ava (12th – Y5), Eva, (1st – Y5), Billy (2nd – Y6), Jude (13th – Y6), Lani (12th – Y6) and Pepper (20th – Y6)

Congratulations to Billy and Eva who will go on to represent the Norwich School Sports Partnership at the Norfolk School Games finals in the Spring Term.

Full results to follow over the next couple of days.

Thank you to all that helped out and supported our children throughout the day.

If you or your children are interested in taking your running further perhaps visit your local Junior parkrun on Sunday mornings at Eaton Park – information is available here!

Sport at Wensum awarded Bronze!

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games Bronze Mark Award for the 2017/18 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

Our sporting achievements this year include:
Increasing participation in Extra Curricular Sports
All children taking part in the Go run for fun at Eaton Park
Children taking part in competitions and festivals in a range of different sports
Increasing our participation in competitive sport and festivals to 100% of children
Taking part in the sports partnership Dance Show at Open
4 children competing in the School Games County Cross Country finals
Increasing participation in lunchtime and before school sport
Giving children the chance to make positive changes to their attitudes towards physical activity

With a total of 110 young people from Wensum competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

A special thanks to:
The children who are always honest, kind and respectful when they represent our school in sport.
All of the staff that allow our children to access a range of sports and activities.
Every parent who comes to support and help with the activities that we provide our children.
The staff in the office who help to coordinate letters, transport and lunches.

Anyone who has helped on any of our sporting activities this year.

Without all of your support it would not have been possible to achieve all that we have this year.

We look forward to next year and moving on to achieving greater things with sport at Wensum Junior School!

Go Run for Fun 2018

Yesterday all of the children from Wensum Junior took the short journey to Eaton Park to take part in the Global Go Run for fun.

The GO Run For Fun programme has a very simple aim – to get as many kids between the age of 5 and 10 running as possible, through well organised fun events. Whether it is 1 km or 1 mile does not matter. Since GO Run For Fun kicked off in Summer 2013, they have seen well over 200,000 young runners take part in events spanning the UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and USA.

Today in Norwich we were part of the group that saw the 230,000th runner cross the finish line for the Go Run For Fun events.

Each child got the very own famous pink t-shirt worn by the Go Run For Fun team and their own race number too, before they set off with a lap of Eaton Park.

The event was supported by Meghan Beesley, who recently got back from Team England’s trip to the Commonwealth Games in Australia. Meghan is a 400 metre hurdler and got to encourage all the children today by telling them all how she got into athletics.

If your child enjoyed today’s fun run, then why not take them along to the FREE weekly Norwich Junior Park Run which is held in Eaton Park every Sunday at 9.00am.

You can also find out information about local athletics clubs by visiting the Clubs Page.

Three Wensum pupils were successful in their representation of the Norwich Sports Partnership at the Norfolk School Games on Wednesday.

Billy, Eva and Lani traveled to the beautiful Holkham Hall in wet and muddy conditions to take part against 100’s of other children. All three ran to the best of their abilities and we are all really proud of their efforts.

Lani finished 35th

Billy finished 31st

and Eva came 2nd in the Year 4 girls race and had her medal presented to her by Iona Lake who will be representing England at the 2018 Commonwealth games later this year.

Well done to you all!!
