Children from Y3, 4 and 6 went to compete at the Gresham School Cross Country Event on Friday.
With over 1,200 children competing it was lovely for our children to test their running skills against others from schools across the East of England.
A massive thank you to Mr Wigg for organising the event, Mrs May for her support and all the parents that gave up their time to help on the day.
A report from the field will follow written by Tia.
Cross Country – By Tia
It was an exciting day for 24 children from Wensum as they travelled to Gresham Prep School in Holt. Altogether 950 children participated in four different races.
The first race was the 9 and under boys race – Which was 900 meters. There was over 300 children in this race. It was a good start from the boys but there was lots of pushing and shoving but it paid off. Billy in Y4 amazingly battled to come in 13th place. Jack M in Y3 came 86th and the rest of the boys were all in the top 150.
Next up was the Under 9 girls. Eva E stormed off at start and was leading the way for the Wensum team. This race was 900 meters and all of the girls ran extremely well. At the end Eva came in 6th place and performed exceptionally well. Lani and Isabella also came in the top 50 out of over 250 children.
The third race was the Under 11 boys. James led the way and really made sure that he was prepared for the battle ahead. With longer distances being put to the children – 1500m – it was going to be a battle for the top places. Bobby tried to keep pace with James and finally dropped back. James cam 23rd and all of the rest of Y6 finished in the top 200.
Finally, the Under 11 girls race. This was also 1500m and the girls were all determined to finish in the top 100. There was an amazing start and all the girls ran really well. Tia crossed the line in 78th, Holly 81st, Ella 99th and Sophie 100th. Everyone was amazing and we all worked together. Ella showed superb Sportsmanship by waiting for Sophie when she needed some support.
Everybody from Wensum performed amazingly. Thank you again Mr Wigg for supporting us and an amazing day at the cross country.
