The newly formed Y5 football team made the short trip to Firside Junior school. With some experienced players from the Y6 team making for a strong team it promised to be a good fixture.
Wensum took an early lead. Findlay was fouled on the edge of the box. Munir took the free kick and placed it into the bottom right corner with the Firside keeper stranded. Firside then scored two goals just before half time to make it 2-1 at half time.
Wensum rallied in the second half but were pegged back by the previously unbeaten Firside team. Further goals increased their lead. Wensum scored their second with a wonderful goal. A long throw into the box from Findlay found Munir who tucked the ball into the net past the keeper. This made the score 4-2.
As Wensum pushed on to try and score more, Firside took advantage of gaps at the back and scored two more. The final score 6 – 2 didn’t really tell the full story. George made numerous saves and really kept the score down. Munir and Findlay could have scored more and Wensum were more than a match for a strong Firside team.
With the final whistle still echoing – Wensum received high praise from the Firside staff saying we were “the best side that they had played all season” and “we were the first side to score any goals against them”. This certainly gave the team the credit that they deserved and a really positive end to the half term!
Well played everyone!
