While teachers commonly ask students to write about a topic in order to assess how well they understand the material, the process of writing also improves a student's ability to recall information, make connections between different concepts, and synthesize information in new ways.
Achieving the Expected Standard
At Wensum, we have developed our own framework for assessing writing. A copy of the assessment document is pasted into the front of their English and REAL books and the class teacher signs and dates the statements when the child can provide evidence. Below you can find links to the Expected Standard documents for each year group. If a child is not yet at the Expected Standard for their year group, they will collect evidence on a corresponding Working Towards document.
