Today saw the launch of our new gardening class. Finchley class went out to explore and weed the raised beds ready for Autumn planting later this half term. We had a question to answer: what is a plant? We explored the different plants we found and brought back to class some really interesting specimens. In the afternoon we identified the different parts and then did some beautiful observational drawings which were then labeled. At the end of the session we answered our question as a piece of shared writing. This was our class answer to the question:
What is a plant?
“A plant is a living thing that doesn’t move from where it grows. It grows in soil and it has leaves, a stem, roots and a flower. The roots keep it in one place and help the plant to drink. The plant gets its food from the sun.”
